Self-Hosted Bigbluebutton Cluster Setup with Scalelite

Large Businesses, Enterprises, Institutions & Universities that have more than 250 Concurrent Users (For example 50 Concurrent Sessions with 5 Users in each ), may go for Multiple Bigbluebutton Servers with Scalelite Server for Load Balancing.

Scalelite allows attaching even more than 100 Bigbluebutton servers which can each serve to 100-150 concurrent users. So total concurrent users can be as high as 100000. But Scalelite provides Single API to manage & use all BBB servers together with the Front-end like Greenlight & Moodle.

Scalelite is an Open-source Load balancer built by the Bigbluebutton team to allow the universities to run all their classes online, during COVID19.

What we will be doing on your Cloud Infrastructure to Make your Bigbluebutton Setup for more than 250 Users?

• Create AWS VPC & EC2 Instances
• Minimum 2 Bigbluebutton Server Installation & Rebranding
• TURN Server Setup & Configuration
• Scale-lite Server Installation & Configuration

Optional things can be Done with additional cost

• NFS Storage for Recordings Sync from all BBB Servers & server with Scalelite API (Optional)
• Separate Greenlight Installation & Rebranding (Optional)
• Additional On-demand Bigbluebutton Server Setup on AWS
  (You can Start & Stop to match certain demands , attach & detach from Load Balancer , If these servers are not running AWS bill will be almost Nil , Only Boot Volume & Reserved Elastic IP will cost a littile monthly cost )

Known Limitations:

Though this Manually Scalable Setup is benificial for the Schools , Colleges , Universities as they has linear predictable growth & demand of Concurrent Users with almost fixed daily use-case .

The ERP & LMS vendors , who aim to provide the service globally to Multiple Schools & organizations , has very dynamic use-case ranging from 500 to even 5000 concurrent users at any certain point of time , so it is practically not possible to manually Start / Stop On-demand servers & attach/detach to the Load Balancer at any certain period of time . Also running the Self-hosted Infrastructure at full capacity(5000 Concurrent Users) for 24*7 to fulfill such certain demands doesn’t make sense at all for the LMS vendors .
